There are plenty of activities on offer for families visiting Le Fresnoy. Whether on Wednesdays, at weekends or during the school holidays, we offer weekly film screenings for young audiences, fun-filled guided tours of the exhibitions, and art workshops led by Le Fresnoy’s artists. Wonderful discoveries to share!
CINEMA
Every week, discover a film for young audiences, either from the latest releases or selected from the classics of animated cinema. There’s something for all tastes and all ages, from programmes of short films for very young children (aged 2–3 and over) to Japanese animated films that will delight teenagers and their parents.
Workshops on audiovisual techniques are also held regularly, offering an insight into film-making through an introduction to sound effects, stop-motion animation and video editing.
FAMILY FILMS
Every last Sunday of the month at 3.00 pm (except in July and August), the Cinéfamille sessions feature a film screening followed by an afternoon snack, available for €1.80. This price is subject to the presentation of a voucher, which can be collected – without needing to show proof of eligibility – from several media libraries and community centres in Tourcoing (list below) and must be presented at the reception desk at Le Fresnoy on the day of the screening.

THE FIRST PAINTING
The ‘La première toile’ sessions are designed to support our youngest audience members during their first cinema experience.
These films are tailored to the understanding and attention spans of children aged 3 and over, with a special welcome and support programme. An activity is organised to go alongside each screening.
Four screenings are held each year, one during each school holiday.

Reading area
Opposite the exhibition and on your way to the cinemas, you’ll find a reading area dedicated to young visitors. Here you’ll discover a selection of beautiful books that spark the imagination, linked to current or past exhibitions, cinema, photography and more…
Des documents de visite pour les expositions
Since 2016, visitor guides have been available to visitors at Le Fresnoy to help families explore the exhibitions. They are designed to help visitors engage with the artworks in a simple and insightful way through stories and anecdotes that are accessible to everyone. To complement the text, student artists or graduates from Le Fresnoy are invited to create illustrations that offer a visual interpretation of the artworks.
Evocative rather than realistic, these illustrations encourage observation, helping visitors to connect with the exhibition and spark their imagination.
Des fiches d’activités à faire à la maison
During lockdown, whilst the ‘Panorama 22 – Les sentinelles’ exhibition was taking place, artists were given free rein to devise an activity for children that could be carried out at home with minimal equipment. These activities take as their starting point the themes or techniques featured in their installations. For each activity sheet, a short text introduces the artist’s work, followed by the related activity.
