Call for proposals – Production of a digital artwork | Hauts-de-France & Flanders

Through this call for projects launched by Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains and Designregio Kortrijk, On/Art aims to support two artistic projects incorporating digital technologies, one led by a Belgian artist and the other by a French artist. The two selected works will receive cross-border support and will be presented in Tourcoing and Kortrijk in 2026.

1. Aims of the call for proposals

Encouraging cross-border digital artistic creation and experimentation
To support innovative projects that combine art, technology and/or science
Fostering connections between artists, audiences and local communities
To facilitate the cross-border dissemination of the selected project

2. Eligibility

Professional artists or collectives based in the cross-border region (Hauts-de-France, West Flanders)
Creators working in the fields of digital art, the visual arts, performance art, design, experimental music, artistic research, etc.
Cross-border dimension of the project (Hauts-de-France, West Flanders): planned collaborations, implementation utilising resources from both regions (expertise, equipment and technical platforms, etc.)
Projects that can be carried out within the timeframe and technical specifications set by Le Fresnoy – Studio national and Designregio Kortrijk

3. Nature of the projects expected

Proposals may relate, in particular, to:

Interactive or immersive installations
Generative works (image, sound, text, video)
VR/AR devices
Technological or hybrid performance
Robotic or kinetic art
Works utilising AI, data, mapping, networks, etc.

The work must be suitable for presentation to the public in an exhibition or performance format.

4. Support provided

The winner(s) will receive:

production support of up to 3,000 euros (including VAT),
technical and artistic support from the teams at Designregio Kortrijk and Le Fresnoy – Studio national,
access to technical facilities depending on the project: Buda::Lab, Fablab and post-production facilities at Le Fresnoy,
a public presentation of the project.

5. Application procedures and timetable

Applicants must submit a portfolio and the artistic and technical proposal for the project currently under development, setting out the implementation timetable and support requirements (expertise, technical resources, financial resources), to the following address: on-art@lefresnoy.net

Call for applications opens: 10 December 2025
Deadline for applications: 12 January 2026
Selection of projects by a panel comprising experts from both regions
Production period: first half of 2026
Public launch: autumn 2026

ON/ART cross-border project

The ON/ART cross-border project aims to create a stimulating cross-border community in which media artists, digital creators and the two organisations work together, share resources and carry out joint projects. Le Fresnoy – Studio national brings years of professional experience in media arts and a strong connection to contemporary technologies. Designregio Kortrijk has extensive expertise in networking and community building. This exchange of knowledge creates new opportunities for new media artists and creators on both sides of the border. As part of this initiative, and with a view to sharing expertise and learning, Designregio Kortrijk and Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains are offering this workshop.

This workshop is co-funded with support from the ERDF. This call for proposals is organised as part of the ON/ART micro-project, which was approved under the INTERREG France-Wallonia-Flanders programme.

A lecture organised as part of the educational programme, open to the public. Cy Lecerf Maulpoix is an author, translator and lecturer in critical theory at the city’s School of Fine Arts (INSEAMM).

Lecture: ‘Queer Algorithms: Disrupting Technologies, Imagining Our Futures’ by Guillaume Chevillon

Lecture organised as part of the teaching programme, open to the public. Guillaume Chevillon is a professor at ESSEC, where he holds the Chair in Cultural Industries, Art and Creative Technologies and is Director of Metalab for AI, Data and Society, a transdisciplinary research institute dedicated to the societal challenges of artificial intelligence.
