Film et installation

Les Moissonneurs de soleils is a film exploring the convergence of interests between political circles and technology companies in two countries: the United States and Russia. Thanks to the collusion between these circles, radical technophile discourses, such as the theory of the Singularity across the Atlantic or cosmism in Russia, are publicly promoted in both former Cold War superpowers. These eschatologically tinged discourses advocate the colonisation of the cosmos, biological immortality, and the fusion of human beings with machines. The film sets out to trace the history of these imaginaries from a technocritical perspective, from the 19th century to the present day, explaining how they currently serve imperialist aims. Structured in seven chapters, the film also traces the little-known origins of transhumanism in France during the interwar period.

Shot using live-action footage in a virtual production studio, the film employs artificial intelligence as a directorial technique to place the actors within the often fantastical imaginary worlds of the characters they portray. Elements from the film set welcome the audience and lend a tangible dimension to the narrative.

Découvrir le profil

Born in Chambray-lès-Tours in 1990, lives and works in Paris. Donatien Aubert is an artist, researcher and writer. He is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy and the Faculty of Arts at Sorbonne University (where he completed a PhD in comparative literature). He also spent three years as a researcher at EnsadLab (the laboratory of the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs). He is currently a visiting artist-lecturer at Le Fresnoy–Studio national des arts contemporains. Aubert creates hybrid works (videos, interactive installations, virtual reality programmes, and sculptures made using computer-aided design and manufacturing), aiming to achieve epistemological and historical perspective by balancing forms that owe as much to the classical culture of curiosity (scientific and literary) as to that of contemporary technoscience. He was the winner of the Cnap’s (National Centre for Visual Arts) “Image 3.0” photography commission in 2020. In 2024, he received the OPLINE Curators’ Prize. He has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Odile Ouizeman, Paris, in 2021, at 3 bis f in Aix-en-Provence in 2022, and at Le Hublot in Nice in 2024. He is published by Éditions Hermann (*Vers une disparition programmatique d’Homo sapiens ?*, 2017) and has contributed to academic works, notably *L’art de la mémoire et les images mentales*(2018), published by Éditions du Collège de France.
