The ocean has disappeared. In its place, an infinite desert stretches to the horizon. This is where Ella, the new owner of this land, and her husband dream of building the city of tomorrow.
One evening, at the inauguration party, a memory short-circuits the present.
Inspired by film noir and magic realism, this is the story of two different gazes that come across an image from the past, the legacy of a trauma and its irruption into reality.
Charles Cadic is a French filmmaker based in Paris. A graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, the École des beaux-arts in Paris and the Glasgow School of Art, he entered Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains in 2025. Through his films, he explores the themes of disappearance, presence and memory. Following *Cénotaphe* (2022), post-produced at Light Cone and screened at the Kasseler Dokfest and the Image Forum Festival in Tokyo, and *Stahr* (2025), he directed *Watt* (2026), set on an island that is in the process of disappearing from the physical world.
