Film

27 December 1999, a stormy day, a birthday, a day of separation. A portrait of my mother, of our relationship.

Born in 1998 in the Vendée, lives and works in Paris and Roubaix. Currently a student at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, he has studied at the beaux-arts de Paris and the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy. Nathan Ghali’s practice stands between video art and cinema, involving 3D animation and photography. His works, drawing on fragmentary narratives and autobiographical experiences (childhood memories, loneliness, difficulties in communicating), explore memory, language and the construction of images. By repurposing online resources and standardised elements of computer-generated imagery, he creates narratives in which reality and simulation intertwine, complementing and rewriting his personal history. His work has been shown at the Salon de Montrouge, the Prix Dauphine for contemporary art, and at international festivals such as the Berlinale, Locarno and Telluride.
