Asleep or wounded? Are the soldiers dreaming of archives or are the archives dreaming of them? From the Vietnamese-Cambodian border, a son posted to the front writes to his father, who lived through the First Indochina War: two wars, two generations, and weary bodies starting over. In the guardhouse, the soldier is on watch. In the night, the coucal becomes his ears, his vigilance, his breath. So long as it is singing, he can breathe. When it falls silent, danger is near.
Nguyễn Phượng Kiều Anh lives and works between Vietnam and France. She graduated from ENSAD Paris in 2020, then from Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains in 2026. Her work, spanning film, installation, and writing, questions the body as a site of memory, violence, resistance, and exhaustion, at the edge of the intimate, the political, and the imaginary. Through fragmented storytelling and the interplay of archival and fictional traces, she constructs environments that unfold as mutable cartographies, landscapes where memory and history are constantly negotiated and reimagined. She has exhibited her work at Les Grands Magasins in Pantin (FRA), Sàn Art in Ho Chi Minh City (VNM), and Nhà Sàn Collective in Hanoi as part of DOCUMENTA 15 (DEU), among others. Her first film, *Fallen Noon – Trưa Lịm*, was selected for international festivals including CPH:DOX (NEW:VISION AWARD competition) and FICCI Cartagena, and received the Best Film award at Videoex Zurich in 2026.
