Performance
There is this dancing entity, and there is what he has created out of himself. Hip-hop movements filmed and reanimated in a 3D space that is like a city without an address. On stage, the two coexist, close yet at odds, neither quite the same nor quite strangers. Mauss Told You to Dance explores what resists transmission when the virtual colonises movement.
Gabriel Naghmouchi’s work stands at the intersection of dance, video, performance, music and publishing. His approach combines plastic and anthropological research, exploring historical, colonial, intimate, musical and patriarchal legacies. Gabriel dances hip-hop, masters the art of the turntable and organises performance evenings called perf.id, where he invites friends and anyone who wants to take up a space for creative experimentation. Through these initiatives, he is constantly on the lookout for freer, more inclusive and respectful spaces, where talking and sharing are central. Talia Hausman, Independent curator
