A gaze descends to earth and everything is song. Landscapes and those who dwell there become scores for technologies capable of emotion: praise passes via the algorithm.
The device experiments by allowing machines an exemplary position of fascination in relation to the world: they set the tone for humans, they want to rescue them from their blindness. The viewer is positioned between a traditional capture of the real (fixed shots inspired by the brothers Lumière) and its digital encoding with sound manifestations based on the scales of the School of Notre-Dame (12th–13th century).
If nobody is looking at it, the work becomes dormant. It switches back into action under a starry sky, in a circadian cycle that follows the rhythm of a respiration designed to seem alive. The candour of its voices: in order to sing, one must breathe, and the soul is in the breath.
The faces that appear between two landscapes take on the reflective function of an audience, and offer the voices that sing them another form of beauty. Plastic and temporal dilations occur, the familiar becomes new. These humans are also the inhabitants of the landscapes. Sometimes relative newcomers, sometimes from way back.
Born in Reims in 1989. After studying at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg, he moved to Paris where he was involved in several theatre projects: with the company Le Dispariteur, at the Ménagerie de Verre and the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, and with the L’Heure du rat company, at Lafayette Anticipations. At the same time, he made films, photographs and drawings and had the opportunity to feature in various exhibitions, notably at Pauline Perplexe (Arcueil) and Galerie Stéphanie Kelly (Dresden).
