Installation

My work explores the relationship between man and the living and non-living, the traces of mating and infectious exchanges with which he is marked as he frequents, domesticates and eats the species he cohabits with; as he develops technological objects which, in return, shape his subjectivity and transform his nature. In installations, speculative stories and films, I capture and reveal signs of the critical existential situation faced by man at a time of major ecological crisis and industrial transition, which have resulted in a loss of bearings and a need for him to call into question his condition, his beliefs, and his place with the world.

This year I began working on an artistic thesis with Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains and Université de Lille in order to extend my research and to create a community of artists, writers and researchers capable of reflecting on a new cosmo-technology, one of the expressions of which would be the human being. This first phase is advancing on two fronts, theoretical and artistic, and I shall be exhibiting the state of my research for Panorama 21.

Cindy Coutant

Cindy Coutant is an artist and PhD student (Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains/Université de Lille). Her work mainly explores the desire of the living to connect with beings and things, the co-evolution between species or techno-species, and human beings’ need to find meaning in information about the world. Her installations, films and augmented readings are close to the science fiction genre and are developed through writing. They explore various issues, such as love in the time of technological espionage, affective economies, the grammar of anxiety and alternative accounts of the creation of the world.
