Pump up the volume - Installation - 2011

Installation

Pump Up The Volume is a sound and choreographic installation.

It is composed of a motorised bodybuilding machine paired up with a sound system. The machine produces several choreographies and musical environments resulting from the data transmitted via a software programme. This data is obtained by various tests, performance analysis and the recording of the development of the artist’s body during the period of production of the piece. A “programme” of training in a bodybuilding centre was planned and it is the transformation on his body that is found here re-injected into the machine.

The piece plays on the relationship between man and the machine. A transfer of effort takes place between the latter, in the protocol followed by man and the movements produced by the machine. The construction of a body and that of a musical and choreographic composition are linked.
