Between the layers of the city lies a fragmented memory, that of the first hip-hop dancers in Châtelet-Les-Halles. Sous le béton explores this lost heritage, buried beneath successive renovations and the absence of archives.

The film weaves a dialogue between past and present, mixing documentary accounts and fictional reconstructions. Through the testimonies of key figures – Koïsso, Jean-Claude Guibert, Marguerite Mboulé and DJ Chabin – it brings to life the gestures, voices and trajectories of this first generation of urban artists. In the space of the film, their memory becomes a territory of reconstruction, where contemporary bodies re-enact the dances of yesterday, in the very spot where they once existed.

By moving the archive towards gesture and speech, Sous le béton reanimates a past that the city has tried to erase, and asks what it means to pass on a memory that has never been written down.

Gabriel Naghmouchi’s work stands at the intersection of dance, video, performance, music and publishing. His approach combines plastic and anthropological research, exploring historical, colonial, intimate, musical and patriarchal legacies. Gabriel dances hip-hop, masters the art of the turntable and organises performance evenings called perf.id, where he invites friends and anyone who wants to take up a space for creative experimentation.
