Two young men spend the day together after each stealing an orange from an old lady. A young girl witnesses their friendship. The cold air and rain of the north follow them on their respective paths, which cross briefly, and occasionally touch.
Artist and filmmaker Phuong Thao Nguyen was born in Hanoi in 2000. She works in France and Vietnam, tracing the paths of people, stories and objects that cross cultural and political boundaries. The result is a series of portraits situated within the flow of history. She has explored non-fiction in numerous forms: documentary, fiction, sculpture, installation and writing. Over the years, Phuong Thao has developed a sensitive documentary practice that sometimes takes the form of ethnographic studies, bearing witness to the lives of unique communities, complete strangers with whom she forges deep bonds to create images. Her works have been screened and exhibited at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, La Villette and the Fondation Fiminco in Paris, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània in Barcelona, The Fondation Theocharakis in Athens, Casino Luxembourg, Piccadilly Circus in London as well as to the International Art Festival of the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
