Nicola Baratto

Il primo sogno che ricordo - Installation - 2025

presented as part of the exhibition Panorama 27

Installation

Maziar undergoes electroencephalography at the Human Anatomy Department of the University of Palermo. As he dreams of descending into the maze of lava-carved tunnels in the bowels of Mount Etna, the memory of fire transduces into constellations of sweaty glows and shimmers.

Blending meta-narrative with experimental methods of procedural montage, the film installation is edited by Hypnogram; a custom software composed to analyse the rhythms of the actor’s neural oscillations to edit possible re-combinations of the audiovisual bank recorded above and below the Sicilian volcano.

Nicola Baratto

Nicola Baratto (IT, 1989) is a multidisciplinary artist working with film, sculpture and installation. Nicola’s work develops through research on dream practices, alchemy, myths and historical imagination. He is half of the artist duo Baratto & Mouravas, whose *Archaeodreaming* method explores the overlaps between sensory archaeology and oneiric experience to observe how material memory influences collective and individual lives.
