Nicola Baratto
Il primo sogno che ricordo - Installation - 2025
présentée dans le cadre de l'exposition Panorama 27 - Simultaneité
Maziar undergoes electroencephalography at the Human Anatomy Department of the University of Palermo. As he dreams of descending into the maze of lava-carved tunnels in the bowels of Mount Etna, the memory of fire transduces into constellations of sweaty glows and shimmers.
Blending meta-narrative with experimental methods of procedural montage, the film installation is edited by Hypnogram; a custom software composed to analyse the rhythms of the actor’s neural oscillations to edit possible re-combinations of the audiovisual bank recorded above and below the Sicilian volcano.
Nicola Baratto (IT, 1989) is a multidisciplinary artist working with film, sculpture and installation. Nicola’s work develops through research on dream practices, alchemy, myths and historical imagination. He is half of the artist duo Baratto & Mouravas, whose Archaeodreaming method explores the overlaps between sensory archaeology and oneiric experience to observe how material memory influences collective and individual lives.
