Film

In a dense, opaque city, a man walks at a distance, cut off from the world. He collects fragments, post-its – which he keeps without really knowing why. Little by little, he rigorously applies what these bits of paper dictate – reproduce errands, call certain numbers, go to Romania, etc. This absurd system becomes a method, a way of life. This absurd system becomes a method, an attempt to fit into the world.

The film is built around this protocol: an experience of everyday life as a mode of address. The character is in a transitional state. He is an impeded being in search of a connection with reality. In his wanderings, he tries to re-enter the world, borne on by signs from other lives.

Through literary and visual experimentation with the mundane and the ordinary, the vulgar and the commonplace, my aim is to plunge the viewer into a sensitive state, there “where nothing happens.” To explore the possibilities of the meaning of the spoken word, a form of narrative in relation to the image.

Jules Bourbon

Born in Paris in 1994, Jules Bourbon works at the crossroads of cinema and contemporary art, combining video, installation, photography and writing. He graduated from the Villa Arson in 2019 and then from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2023. There he worked in the studios of Hélène Delprat and Clément Cogitore, before entering Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains in 2024.

Writing plays a central part in his approach. Nourished by the everyday and the banal, he sets out to film and tell the story of what is repeated, what accumulates and what, at first glance, seems insignificant.

His work has been shown at a number of venues and events, including the “Waiting Room” exhibition at the Fondation Pernod Ricard, the 45th Cinéma du Réel festival at the Centre Pompidou, and the 68th Salon de Montrouge.

In 2022, he won the Thaddaeus Ropac Prize. In 2023, he was selected for the 10th Révélations Emerige prize with Galerie Nathalie Obadia as his partner, and received the Villa Noailles special jury prize.
