Mon travail a souvent touché à des questions d'hybridité, tant sur le plan formel : documentaire/fiction, animation/live action, que dans son contenu : adulte/enfant, animal/humain, masculin/féminin. Ces états sont alimentés par une expérience personnelle ayant pour référence une double culture et des repères variables. Something Moves Me persiste dans cette direction en combinant des images documentaires d'un environnement proche et familier avec des éléments fantastiques qui évoquent l'évasion et des notions de déplacement. Le son et l'image jouent d'un rapport déviant à la synchronisation, alternant des impressions d'enracinement et des états de lévitation. La recherche engagée pour ce projet m'a incité à revisiter la communauté chinoise dans mon arrondissement parisien de résidence, et m'a permis d'y pénétrer tout en étant confrontée à ma propre position d'étrangère. La collaboration avec le compositeur de musique contemporaine, Eivind Buene, d'origine norvégienne, a amené un autre niveau de langage. Il use de sons et de poches de musique pour explorer cette confrontation psycho-topographique. La forme finale esquisse un espace modifié dans lequel le spectateur est encouragé à questionner son attachement sentimental à un lieu et sa propre notion d'appartenance.
My work has often involved questions of hybridity, be they formal: documentary-fiction, animation-experimental, or content based: adult-child, animal-human, male-female. These states are informed by personal experiences of dual cultural references and dislocated backdrops. Something Moves Me continues in this trajectory combining documentary footage of a local and familiar neighbourhood with fantastical elements that evoke escapism and notions of displacement. Sound and image shift in and out of synchronisation, alternating impressions of rootedness with desynchronisation and states of levitation. The research involved has meant revisiting the local Chinese community which resides in my local arrondissement in Paris, in a way that enables me to at once penetrate it and be confronted with my own position as an outsider. Collaboration with contemporary classical composer of Norwegian origin, Eivind Buene, has provided another level of language with which to investigate this psycho-topographical confrontation, working with sound and pockets of music. The final form searches out an altered space in which the spectator is encouraged to question their emotional attachment to a place and their own notions of belonging.
