Witches, devils' bait, hell's firebrand... who are these women who embody the danger of the times? Feminists for sure, sometimes underground and unusual in their acts, here are a few of today’s witches that have crossed my path. Five reels, five portraits, five acts: the figure of man places the women here at the centre of the universe. The characters in the film are contemporary figures of bad women amongst others. They are those who have not given in to the religious order, nor to the virile order, those who have kept a spiritual and intellectual power, those who have not abdicated, those who have refused to accept. These witches live on... Accomplishing an act of apostasy, treating a burn, showing one's genitals, talking to nature or celebrating Joan of Arc, each character offers, here and now, a political vision of the archetype of the witch. As a continuation of my cinematic approach, the cutting of the sequences, the camera movements and the postproduction effects are reduced to a minimum. The framing, the length of the shots and the presentation of the synchronised and unsynchronised speech of the characters are the formal issues in the film. Faces to break the spell. C.D
