For over twenty years, as a filmmaker and engineer, Jim Campbell has used his knowledge of electronics to create artworks for which he is his own technician. On panels made of hundreds of LEDs, he creates images that are then animated by the change in luminosity of the bulbs. His "lowresolution" series reduces the figures to simple walking silhouettes. In Motion & Rest, the characters are limping and tottering disabled persons. Their fragility and the uncertainty of their movements is underlined by the imperfect and fleeting nature of the images.
