Corps creux is an anime “science and fiction” film about a couple of floating gastropods. The colourful life of these molluscs is lived in the 1960s, which period witnessed the appearance of bubble houses and the curvy furniture of Saarinen Eero. The local colour is based on a collection of virtual furniture and architecture. These soft-shaped characters are extensions of the architecture. They embody two scientists of the age, such as Marcel Pages, who patented a machine for interstellar travel, and Jacques Bergier, a journalist, spy and chemical engineer and co-founder with Louis Pauwels of the fantastic realism. Their writings effect the crossover between the spheres of narrative and the real within the film. In the same way, in around 1958, the Russian astrophysicist Losef Shklovsky deduced by observation and calculation that Phobos, a natural satellite of Mars, was hollow. I took up this scientific mistake, replaying it and making it the cornerstone of the story. I conceived this short film as a “Dadaist” stroll, combining hypotheticodeductive speculation from a past future and a conventional everyday reality.
